US Judge Releases Purported Jeffrey Epstein Suicide Note

A US federal judge has ordered the public release of a handwritten document believed to be a suicide note from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein shortly before his death in 2019. The document, unsealed by a court in New York, reportedly contains several handwritten statements referencing investigations into Epstein and his emotional state before his death. One line in the note claims authorities investigated him for months and “found nothing,” while another states that “it is a treat to be able to choose one’s time to say goodbye.” The authenticity of the note has not been independently verified, and US authorities have not officially confirmed that the handwriting belongs to Epstein.

Note Allegedly Found by Former Cellmate

The note was reportedly discovered by Epstein’s former cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, after an earlier alleged suicide attempt in July 2019. Tartaglione claimed he found the document hidden inside a book while sharing a prison cell with Epstein. Epstein died one month later in a New York federal jail while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges involving underage girls. His death was officially ruled a suicide, although it has remained the subject of widespread public speculation and conspiracy theories for years. The newly released document became part of court proceedings connected to Tartaglione, who was being held at the time while awaiting trial for four murders. Tartaglione later publicly discussed the existence of the note during a podcast appearance.

Court Orders Public Release

The document was unsealed after a request from The New York Times, which argued there was no valid reason to keep the note secret. Federal prosecutors also supported releasing the note, saying there was no longer a strong legal basis for maintaining the seal. In his ruling, Judge Kenneth M Karas stated that releasing the document would promote transparency and public confidence in the justice system. The judge also noted that Tartaglione’s repeated public comments about the note effectively removed attorney-client confidentiality protections tied to the document.

Questions Continue Surrounding Epstein’s Death

Jeffrey Epstein died in August 2019 inside a federal detention center in New York. A later federal investigation identified multiple security failures at the prison on the night of his death, fueling continued public scrutiny and debate over the circumstances surrounding the case. Despite the release of the alleged suicide note, many unanswered questions remain regarding Epstein’s final days and the handling of his imprisonment by federal authorities.
